When Can You Give Cannabis Oil to Children?

Researchers are still busy discovering plenty of positive facts about cannabis oil but when can  you give cannabis oil to children? We have heard many times how useful cannabis oil is for our aches and pains, our depression and anxiety, our nausea and insomnia. But we are still unsure about giving any form of cannabis to our children for fear of failure, or for fear of hurting them. Cannabis is still such a controversial issue, the plant that makes people high, the recreational drug that creates more harm than good. But this is simply not true when it comes to medical cannabis. Medical cannabis oil is a panacea for people of all ages and children do fit into the equation. There are stories about children who have taken cannabis oil to treat chronic diseases like epilepsy and arthritis where they have been cured of symptoms – and sometimes the disease itself.

CBD is Safe Enough to Give to Children

So, when can you give cannabis oil to children? The World Health Organisation (WHO) recently announced its agreement that cannabidiol (CBD) is a cannabinoid that is safe as an alternative natural medication because it has low levels of toxicity and lack of side effects. The cannabinoid we should be watching is tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) which is psychoactive and can have side effects if not taken in the correct dosage. Children should only take CBD and in small doses but always check with your doctor before you go ahead, just to make sure there will not be any clashes with other medication, which is rarely the case.

CBD has been used successfully to treat children with epilepsy and there are other times that will be warrant you giving cannabis oil to children. When you consider that CBD has so many positive effects on the body, why would we not give it to children who need it? CBD can fight inflammation and pain, alleviate anxiety and depression, help with appetite and sleep patterns, help with chronic diseases like Parkinson’s, Multiple Sclerosis and Alzheimer’s – and even stop cancer cells from spreading.

CBD and the Endocannabinoid System

CBD is a cannabinoid that triggers receptors in the body that help you deal with pain and inflammation. It also helps the endocannabinoid system to operate to its full potential. The endocannabinoid system is very important to a child as it is the immune system and everything else that keeps a person healthy – energy levels, metabolism, moods and more. Taking CBD-infused cannabis oil can help the ECS by hindering the enzyme that tends to break down anadamide, an important endocannabinoid in the body. Did you know that endocannabinoids are present in mother’s milk and when the baby sucks, this triggers its CB1 endocannabinoid receptors to stimulate appetite and its sucking instinct?

Give Cannabis Oil to Children in These Scenarios

  • Brain tumours – a deadly form of cancer in children that warrants as much help as possible. CBD can shrink cancerous tumours when the cannabinoids starve the tumour by stopping its source of food in the development of new blood vessels; cannabinoids also force cancer cells to commit suicide so that they cannot form tumours any longer
  • Anxiety and Sleep – CBD has been used successfully to calm children who have faced abuse or terror in their lives; once the anxiety has subsided, the child can sleep better and the CBD also promotes a sense of calmness
  • Issues at Birth – giving a newborn baby CBD at birth for physical damage to the baby due to lack of oxygen to the brain is becoming a study focus. The CBD can limit the amount of damage done at birth but this is still being researched.

What to Do Next for your Children

If you live in a country where medical cannabis is legal, you will have access to cannabis oil and will be able to get CBD to give to your children if they are sickly. Doctors are starting to give online consultations which means that if you live in a place where you cannot use cannabis oil, you can still get proof that you child can take it. Make sure you get CBD that is extracted from pure cannabis in as organic a fashion as possible – free from pesticides, heavy metals and mould. CBD is a safe medical alternative for your children and you should always get advice from your doctor, especially if your child is already on medication.
