Is there a link between bipolar disorder and cannabis oil?

We think so, a positive link. We know that bipolar disorder is a disease of the brain where patients feel huge highs and huge lows, swings in moods and levels of activity. We also know that pure CBD can boost seratonin levels and keep moods stable. CBD is a fast-acting cannabis oil which is not psychotic and is known for is medical and health properties.

What is bipolar disorder?

Not long ago, bipolar disorder was called manic depression and patients were given strong drugs to alleviate their extreme sense of sadness. Now doctors know that this disease is much larger than they previously thought as it has two very different sides to it. Bipolar disorder is a clinical depression where patients experience mood disorders: when they are manic they feel intense irritation or an extreme high, strange and radical energy, fast speech, insomnia, fidgeting, a feeling of self-importance, increased sexual behaviour, hallucinations and substance abuse. When they are depressed, they feel very tired, aching all over, extreme sadness or guilt, unable to focus or concentrate, lack of interest in things they love, unable to clean themselves or their homes and have too much sleep.

What does cannabis oil do for bipolar disorder?

CBD is a non-psychoactive compound found in cannabis with great health effects. It is able to increase seratonin levels which lifts moods. Unlike the cannabinoid THC, CBD oil does not give the patient a high and cannot be abused. It increases the calming neurotransmitter in the body known as GABA and is also fast-acting. Traditional drugs can take weeks to kick in and provide relief to those experiencing manic episodes so when they take CBD oil and feel instant relief, it can be a life saver. Remember that every person reacts differently to cannabis in all its forms. People with bipolar disorder will also react differently to CBD or cannabis oil. Most will report feelings of relief from anxiety and depression and manic episodes. Only some will tell you that their mood swings go worse but then maybe their oil is not pure and contains some elements of THC oil which is known to have psychotic effects on users.

How does the cannabis actually work?

Inside every human is a natural system called the endocannabinoid system which has a huge job – it is constantly finding the balance within the body’s internal environment. Medical cannabis, or marijuana, can actually assist this natural system to maintain the innate balance. CBD can stabilize moods, for example, which immediately helps with depression, pain and other conditions that negatively affect people whose immune systems are weakened. In addition, patients who take CBD oil also have improved mental states which assist with dealing with manic episodes.

We can therefore conclude that there is a link between bipolar disorder and cannabis oil. To find out more, please contact us here and we will gladly assist you.
